A Little Carved Oak Box
I couldn't resist this cute little sewing storage box. Even with all the age old grime I could see its potential immediately. This little piece is a keeper and a perfect candidate for a Dixie Belle makeover. After a thorough clean, and dry, I sanded the top back - it had a lot of old dark patchy stain - and used one coat of No Pain Gel Stain in Walnut wiped back to reveal the pretty grain. I following up with 2 coats of Flat Clear Coat as I prefer a matt finish almost so its looks like there's nothing it.
The body was painted in Manatee Grey, which is a lovely mid toned grey, 2 coats. Sometimes it is recommended to seal the paint using a clear coat at this stage, but I really wanted the black to sit in every single detail and give an aged look. I coated all the painted areas with Black Best Dang Wax and then used the Clear like an eraser to pull it off the flatter areas, leaving the black in all the carved details, the legs and some of the grain. I did some very light distressing on the from corners and legs and let it be.
