Creating this Boho Look Using Dixie Belle Paint

Creating a Boho Style Finish Using Dixie Belle Paint

All the Dixie Belle products I used for this project :-
  • Antebellum Blue
  • Palmetto
  • Vintage Duck Egg
  • Stormy Seas
  • Mermaid Tail
  • Limeade
  • Gold Digger
  • Flat Clear Coat
  • Walnut No Pain Gel Stain

After cleaning this Old Charm cabinet thoroughly it was in such good shape it didn't require any more prep. The top was sanded back to bare wood as there was a stain on the top which I hoped to remove (it didn't) πŸ™ I started out with my main chosen colour, Antebellum Blue, and added it in a relatively random pattern over the from of the piece. I actually had Yankee Blue in my original line up but it was pulling too purple, so I dropped it and swapped in the Vintage Duck Egg. Never be afraid to adapt your plan, it's only paint you can always change your mind.

So my first coat (which included the yankee Blue) I kept going back and looking at it(but somehow forgot to photograph) and over night I decided to do the swap for Vintage Duck Egg, so the following day I set to work with my newer colour line up, using Palmetto, Antebellum Blue, Vintage Duck Egg & Stormy Seas and got to a point I was happy with.

Next I started to play with different highlight colours and techniques. I usually remove hardware and hinges but for this piece I decided to leave them on and incorporate them into the overall design and colour scheme. So at this stage I used Mermaid Tail, Limeade and Gold Digger. Using a spray bottle with a 50/50 mix of water and vinegar to to create the drippy texture and lightly dry brushed over the hinges and handles. I also used a light wash of Gold Digger over the piece and rubbed it back for a slight shimmer.

I really love how this piece has turned out. I used Walnut No Pain Gel Stain on the top, at first I was planning to wipe it back but the dirty stain still showed through, so I went for a more solid layer and didn't wipe it back. I'm very pleased with the end result.
