Creating an Organic Effect Chest of Drawers

Creating an Organic Effect Chest of Drawers

This was my first ever Redesign with Prima transfer project. I picked up this amazing solid pine chest of drawers, scrubbed all the old wax off of it, sanded it smooth then set to the fun work. I sued Fusion Mineral Paint for this project. At the bottom I started with Bayberry, one of my favourite greens, I blended into Lichen and then towards the top I added some Raw Silk for a lighter shade. I used an oval Staalmeester brush for the blending and used a circular motion for a soft cloud like effect. I decided to leave the top as the concept was that this piece was to look like it had been left in a barn and over time the plants had grown up and taken over.

For all the leaves I used the Redesign with Prima transfer called Fern Woods. Its super pretty and all the leaves are spaced out so you can cut out and place in any design you want. I cut out every single leaf separately to create this piece and built up as I went, again to create the look that the foliage was taking over. I added some small scraps to the lower 2 sets of handles and finished off the whole piece with Polyvine Wax finish Varnish in dead flat. Unfortunately this transfer is now discontinued, but you can find many other beautiful styles here
